“Managing Media with the Brain in Mind”
January 20 @ 1:00 pm - 2:00 pm ESTFree
Are you using media or being used by it? Modern technology can be exhausting and stress-inducing for any of us – particularly during these challenging times. Sorting out best uses and boundaries around media bedevils parents and teachers, battling to maintain common-sense limits while seeking a balance between media as a resource and entertainment. In spite of its importance at this moment in history, increased screen time has still been linked to everything from academic problems to obesity, early-drinking to disturbances in executive function. And yet, strong parental involvement with moderating media alone has been linked to social, behavioral, and academic success. Technology is not inherently bad but needs to be handled skillfully to be safe and useful for our children … and for ourselves. While touching on research, this talk emphasizes practical tips and tools for everyday life and finding balance during the pandemic.
